eLITHE is a Horizon Europe project (grant agreement 101138325) aimed at revolutionizing the ceramic industry through process electrification. The project develops innovative electric furnace technologies, thermal energy storage systems using secondary materials, and digital platforms for optimizing renewable energy integration. Key components include: electric furnaces for frits melting and brick firing, hybrid electricity-hydrogen burner concepts, packed-bed thermal energy storage systems up to 1,000°C, predictive maintenance monitoring systems, digital twins for design optimization, and a Decision Support System for energy flexibility management. The consortium includes 18 industrial, technology, and research partners across nine European countries. Target applications focus on high-temperature ceramic kiln processes, with three demonstration sites planned in Spain, Germany, and other European locations. The project aligns with EU 2050 climate neutrality targets and addresses the ceramic industry's 19 million tons of annual CO2 emissions.
