Energiestadt is a non-profit organization that has operated for over 30 years as Switzerland's leading certification and advisory body for municipal-level climate and energy policy. It unites Swiss municipalities—from large cities to small mountain villages—that are committed to addressing energy and climate challenges through continuous local engagement. The organization provides a comprehensive certification system (Energiestadt label and Gold label) that guides municipalities through structured processes toward net-zero goals. It offers consulting services through 110 accredited advisors, develops policy instruments and measurement tools (including the Netto-Null Dashboard and updated 2024 Catalog), and facilitates knowledge exchange among municipalities. Energiestadt also operates Energieschule, a parallel certification program for educational institutions focusing on energy efficiency, renewable energy, and sustainable resource management. The organization serves as a quality management system coordinating with the European Energy Award, an international framework present in 11 countries.
