Envigas builds, owns, and operates large-scale pyrolysis plants that convert organic residuals, primarily Nordic forest residues, into premium quality biocarbon and energy products. The company uses a precision-controlled pyrolysis process at approximately 600°C to produce HQ BioCarbon with 90% carbon content and minimal PAH content. The biocarbon is tailored for the metallurgic industry as a reduction agent to replace fossil coal. For every tonne of biocarbon used instead of fossil coal, approximately 3.3 tonnes of CO2 are saved, with roughly 70% of carbon remaining in the steel. The company also produces pyrolysis oil (a tarry liquid mixture of acids and hydrocarbons) and syngas as co-products, which can be further refined into chemicals, transportation fuels, or processed into biomethane or green hydrogen. Founded in 2013, Envigas is positioned as the first large-scale biocarbon producer in the Nordic region with a strategic focus on enabling the steel industry's transition to fossil-free production.
