The European Climate Initiative (EUKI) is a long-term funding and networking programme of the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Climate Action, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety, implemented by GIZ since 2017. It supports the realization of climate action ideas to advance Europe's transition to climate neutrality by 2050 and reduce greenhouse gas emissions by at least 55% by 2030. EUKI finances cross-border projects addressing renewable energy expansion, energy efficiency improvements, CO2 emission reductions, technological advancement, political dialogue, social justice in climate action, climate education, and sustainable economy. The initiative operates through the EUKI Academy, which strengthens collaboration and knowledge transfer across projects, and brings together climate professionals from local and national governments, civil society, and the education sector. Since 2017, the network has grown to include 514 organizations from 31 European countries collaborating on 246 projects with measurable impact ranging from community engagement and institutional capacity building to policy influence and quantifiable emissions reductions.
