About
Founded in 2019, Flagships is a ngo headquartered in Finland specializing in Hydrogen.
Flagships is an EU-funded research and demonstration project focused on advancing hydrogen fuel cell technology in maritime transport. The project deploys two commercially operated hydrogen-powered cargo vessels: Zulu 06, operating on the Seine in Paris, and H2 Barge 2, operating on the Rhine between Rotterdam and Duisburg. Both vessels use PEM fuel cells for zero-emission operations powered by hydrogen produced from electrolysis. The project consortium includes 12 European partners spanning shipowners (Future Proof Shipping, Norled, CFT), maritime OEMs (ABB Marine & Ports, SEAM), ship design (LMG Marin), fuel cell technology (Ballard Power Systems Europe), and research institutions (VTT). The project has received funding from the Clean Hydrogen Partnership under Horizon 2020 and has been recognized with the Best Outreach Award at EU Hydrogen Week for its pioneering role in zero-emission maritime innovation.
