About

Founded in 2021, FLOATECH is a government headquartered in Berlin, Germany specializing in Wind.

FLOATECH is a 3-year European research initiative (January 2021 - December 2023) funded by the European Commission with €4 million under the Horizon 2020 Energy programme. The project, coordinated by the Technical University of Berlin with 9 partners from 4 EU countries, focuses on developing advanced technologies to reduce the levelized cost of energy (LCOE) for floating offshore wind (FOW). Key deliverables include: (1) QBlade-Ocean, an advanced simulation tool for floating wind turbine design with improved aerodynamic and hydrodynamic fidelity; (2) innovative control techniques combining wave prediction and platform motion anticipation to reduce wake effects and increase energy yield; and (3) integrated optimization approaches for floating turbine subsystems. The project aims to achieve approximately 15% LCOE reduction and 10-20% market value improvement under specific conditions.
