Founded in 2010, Fraunhofer Portugal is a ngo headquartered in Porto, Portugal.

Fraunhofer Portugal is a non-profit private association founded by Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft, Europe's largest organization for applied research. The organization pursues application-oriented fundamental research and innovative R&D projects solving industry's pressing problems. It operates through a performance-related funding model with three revenue streams: industry contract research, government contract research and project funding, and institutional funding for basic research. Fraunhofer Portugal coordinates cooperation between research centers, academic institutions, and industry partners. The organization's AHEAD Portugal program is a technology transfer and entrepreneurship initiative designed to translate world-class technology into successful startups through incubation and licensing agreements. Research centers include AICOS, which specializes in applied research, innovation, and human-centered design, and holds ISO 13485 certification in medical device quality management.
