Geothermie Gräfelfing GmbH & Co. KG is a municipal project company established in April 2022 as a partnership between the municipality and Silenos Energy. In June 2025, the municipality fully acquired all shares, making it 100% municipally controlled. The project develops hydrotermal deep geothermal energy for district heating in Gräfelfing. The company has secured all necessary permits from Bergamt Südbayern and is implementing exploration and drilling activities targeting the Malm aquifer at approximately 3,000-4,000 meters depth, where water temperatures reach around 100°C. The geothermal heat will be distributed via a district heating network to residential buildings, commercial enterprises, and municipal properties. The project emphasizes groundwater protection through certified drilling methods, operates independently of weather and seasons, and aims to provide stable, renewable heat supply while supporting the municipality's climate neutrality goals.
