About
Founded in 2024, Giga-M is a ngo headquartered in Ebersberg, Germany specializing in Geothermal.
Giga-M (Großraumige Integrierte Gesamt-Analyse des tiefengeothermischen Potentials und seiner synergetischen Nutzung im Großraum München) is a government-funded research project coordinated by Technical University of Munich. It aims to unlock deep geothermal energy as a sustainable heat source for the Munich metropolitan area. The project conducts large-scale 3D seismic surveys to map subsurface thermal water resources, develops reservoir management models to optimize multiple simultaneous installations, and creates frameworks for intercommunal cooperation in geothermal development. Partners include Munich Utilities (SWM), Energie-Wende-Garching, Munich District, and Energieagentur Ebersberg-München. Results will inform future geothermal projects and support Munich's goal of climate-neutral heating by 2035.
