Gondosolar
Gondo-Zwischbergen, Valais, Switzerland
About
Founded in 2022, Gondosolar is a private headquartered in Gondo-Zwischbergen, Switzerland specializing in Solar.
Gondosolar is a community-based renewable energy project established to build Switzerland's largest alpine photovoltaic installation above Gondo in the Valais region. The project is a partnership between initiator Renato Jordan (who owns the land), the municipality of Gondo-Zwischbergen (35% capital participation), and Energie Electrique du Simplon (EES). Located at 2000-2200 meters elevation on the south-facing Alpjerung site covering approximately 100,000-170,000 m², the installation will feature approximately 1,600-2,205 solar trees, each containing 16 bifacial photovoltaic panels arranged in a cross pattern. This innovative tree-like structure design minimizes environmental impact, reduces snow accumulation risks in the high-altitude alpine environment, and integrates better with the sensitive mountain landscape. The project generates significantly higher winter electricity output than lowland installations due to altitude, snow reflection, and cold-temperature efficiency gains. A test facility has been operational since November 2022. The project received conditional building approval from the cantonal authorities in 2024, with construction anticipated to begin upon final permits and federal subsidies confirmation. Total investment is estimated at approximately 42 million CHF.
