About
Founded in 2017, GRACE is a government headquartered in Stuttgart, Germany specializing in Biomass, Biogas.
GRACE is a multi-stakeholder research project funded under the European Union's Horizon 2020 programme (grant agreement No 745012) that demonstrates the production of biomass crops and biobased products on marginal and contaminated agricultural land. The project involves a consortium of 22 partners including academic institutions, SMEs, farmers, and industrial clusters. It focuses on miscanthus, a perennial C4 grass that yields up to 25 tonnes of dry matter annually over a 20-year cultivation period, and hemp, a multipurpose annual crop. Both crops are low-input, high-output crops requiring minimal pesticide and fertilizer application. The project demonstrates ten value chains converting these biomass sources into various biobased products including building materials, bioethanol, basic chemicals, composites, and acoustic panels. Each value chain is assessed for environmental, economic, and social sustainability using lifecycle assessment tools. The project concluded by end of December 2022.
