About
Founded in 2021, Grüner Wasserstoff für Bremerhaven is a government headquartered in Bremerhaven, Germany specializing in Hydrogen, Wind.
Grüner Wasserstoff für Bremerhaven is a two-year model project funded by the Land Bremen and European Union (approximately €20 million) to establish a hydrogen competence center and value chain development in Bremerhaven. The initiative is a collaboration between Hochschule Bremerhaven, Fraunhofer IWES, ttz Bremerhaven, and BIS Wirtschaftsförderung. The project focuses on four primary applications: hydrogen-powered buoys for offshore wind measurement (LiDAR), synthetic natural gas (SNG) production through power-to-gas technology, hydrogen-powered industrial baking ovens for food processing, and autonomous microgrid systems. A planned Hydrogen Lab will feature a 2 MW electrolyzer capable of producing approximately 1 tonne of hydrogen daily, powered by a nearby 8 MW research wind turbine. The initiative supports hydrogen vehicle integration in logistics and transportation, develops grid-stabilizing technologies, and creates practical demonstrators to support industrial-scale deployment. Research emphasizes decarbonization of industrial processes and development of resilient, decentralized energy systems aligned with the Northern Germany Hydrogen Strategy.
