Hi-ern is a government headquartered in Erlangen, Germany specializing in Hydrogen, Solar, Energy Storage.

HI ERN researches and develops material and process-based solutions for climate-neutral, sustainable, and cost-effective utilization of renewable energies. The institute focuses on structural and functional characterization, modeling, and manufacturing of materials relevant to hydrogen and solar technology. Research departments include: Chemical Hydrogen Storage (developing apparatus and processes for chemical hydrogen storage in liquid organic hydrogen carriers), Electrocatalysis (technical interfaces of electrocatalytic devices including catalyst layers, membranes, and transport layers in fuel cells and water electrolyzers), and High Throughput Methods in Photovoltaics. The institute is a branch office of Forschungszentrum Jülich and operates in close cooperation with Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg and Helmholtz-Zentrum Berlin.
