Höhenwind is one of Germany's oldest citizen-owned renewable energy cooperatives, headquartered in Koblenz. Since 1994, the company has been planning, constructing, and operating wind and solar parks, predominantly in Rhineland-Palatinate. Currently operating 10 wind parks with 20 turbines total, the company pioneered citizen participation in renewable energy projects. In 2010, Höhenwind conducted the first repowering in the Hunsrück region, replacing two 600 kW turbines with two 2,350 kW units, increasing clean energy production sevenfold. The company avoids over 70 million tonnes of CO2 annually. Höhenwind manages all aspects of project development from conception through decommissioning, including project financing, construction oversight, and operational management.
