K3 Handwerkcity is a specialized commercial building in Wallisellen, Switzerland, designed as a hub for construction professionals. The facility is distinguished by its innovative energy system featuring Europe's most productive facade-mounted solar installation (3,900 m² total area: 3,300 m² on facades, 600 m² on roof). Energy generation combines the solar array with a heat pump and gas-fired combined heat and power (CHP) unit. The system produces approximately the annual electricity demand of 100 households or 200 electric vehicles. On-site energy production serves both the building's needs and individual tenant metering, offering improved pricing transparency. The project is scientifically monitored by Empa research institute to optimize system performance and develop design guidelines for future installations. The facility serves as a pilot for renewable energy integration aligned with Switzerland's Energy Strategy 2050 and Wallisellen's designation as an Energy City.
