Lir National Ocean Test Facility is a custom-designed research infrastructure operated by the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI). Established in 1977, it comprises a 2,600 m² tank hall with four wave tanks capable of producing waves up to 1.2 metres high, including a deep ocean wave basin, ocean wave basin, wave and current flume with coastal/tidal testing capabilities, and a wave demonstration flume. The facility supports development and testing of offshore renewable energy technologies, serving as the first step in device development. Devices can progress from laboratory conditions to protected testing sites (Galway Bay Test Site) and ultimately open ocean conditions (Atlantic Marine Energy Test Site, Bemullet).
