MINIMAL is a collaborative EU research initiative coordinated by Chalmers University of Technology that develops disruptive ultra-efficient and low-emission technologies for aircraft propulsion. The project focuses on the intercooled composite cycle engine (CCE) concept—combining gas turbine and piston engine technologies—to achieve double-digit fuel efficiency improvements and substantial CO2 and non-CO2 emission reductions. Key research activities include aerothermal investigations, NOx measurements and modeling, hydrogen combustion experiments, and maturation of the CCE technology to TRL 3. Partners include Chalmers University, Cranfield University, Rolls-Royce, MTU Aero Engines, and other European research and industrial organizations.
