About
Founded in 2020, MiniStor is a ngo headquartered in Santiago de Compostela, Spain specializing in Solar, Energy Storage, Other.
MiniStor is a multi-partner research and innovation project funded by the European Union's Horizon 2020 programme (grant agreement No 869821). The project aims to design and develop a novel compact, integrated thermal storage system for achieving sustainable heating, cooling, and electricity storage in residential buildings. The system integrates a high-performing thermochemical material reaction combined with hot and cold phase-change materials (PCMs) and conventional Li-ion battery storage for year-round flexibility. The MiniStor concept optimizes thermal energy management by allowing storage to level demand peaks and increase utilization of intermittent renewable sources like solar-based heating. Demonstration and validation occurs across five sites in Ireland, France, Greece, and Hungary, tested under different climatic conditions. The consortium comprises 17 members across EU member states and Switzerland, including large industry partners (SGS), SMEs (EndeF, ENETECH), research organizations (Tyndall-IERC, CARTIF, CERTH-CPERI, ITI, CNRS-PROMES, EMI, HSLU, University of Santiago de Compostela), and demonstration site partners (Cork City Council, DUTH, Woodspring). Project objectives include reducing net building energy consumption by at least 25%, achieving ROI periods below 10 years, and demonstrating 20+ year stable performance with minimal space requirements (storage material volume not exceeding 1m³ per dwelling).
