Orkídea is a joint venture promoting innovation and investment in South Iceland in energy-related food production and biotechnology. It is owned by Landsvirkjun, the Association of South Iceland Municipalities, the Agricultural University of Iceland and the Ministry of Environment, Energy and Climate. The organisation supports entrepreneurs, runs business accelerators such as Startup Orkídea, and promotes biogas and biomethane use in agriculture, including tractors running on farm-produced methane. It also coordinates EU-funded projects such as Terraforming LIFE and Value4Farm.

2Terraforming LIFE
Develops a method to produce fertiliser and biogas from fish sludge from land-based aquaculture and livestock manure, within an integrated agriculture-aquaculture circular economy. Co-funded by the EU's environment and climate programme.
Value4Farm
Assesses the feasibility of a local biogas plant in the Uppsveitir area of Árnessýsla using cow manure and horticultural waste to produce energy, CO2 for horticulture and fertiliser.
