About
PHOENIX is a ngo headquartered in Belgium specializing in Energy Storage.
PHOENIX is an innovative EU-funded project under Horizon Europe (grant agreement No. 101103702) that aims to build more reliable and high-performing batteries by embedding advanced sensors and self-healing functionalities. The project focuses on detecting battery degradation and triggering repair mechanisms through an integrated Battery Management System. Key objectives include reducing specific battery costs by 10%, achieving a 100% increase in cycle life, developing self-healing battery materials with various sensing technologies (thermal, ultrasonic, gas, deformation sensors), and implementing triggering mechanisms (thermal, magnetic, pressure). The project will prototype 200 cells across single-layer and multi-layer configurations, with demonstration of Generation 3b and 4a Li-ion batteries suitable for electric mobility and stationary applications. It addresses manufacturing scalability, recycling feasibility, and environmental sustainability through Life Cycle Assessment.
