Founded in 2020, Pro-future is a ngo headquartered in Spain specializing in Biomass.

ProFuture is a European-funded Horizon 2020 research project (grant agreement No 862980) coordinated by the Institute of Agrifood Research and Technology in Spain. The 4-year initiative brings together 31 partners from 13 European countries including researchers, SMEs, large food and feed companies, and industry associations. The project focuses on scaling microalgae production and preparing market uptake of microalgae proteins as ingredients for innovative and sustainable food and feed products. Key objectives include developing innovative technologies requiring less freshwater, chemical nutrients and energy; assessing advanced production technologies; creating six types of protein-rich food products and four types of feed products; improving cost-efficiency and sustainability of large-scale cultivation; and conducting consumer perception studies. Pilot production is tested with SMEs, while industrial-scale implementation involves nine large food and feed companies. Results are implemented in microalgae farms in Portugal and Spain.
