About

Founded in 2020, Promet-h2 is a ngo headquartered in Huesca, Spain specializing in Hydrogen, Energy Storage.

Promet-h2 is a European Horizon 2020 research and innovation project (grant agreement No 862253) running from April 2020 to April 2024. The project aims to develop pressurized proton exchange membrane water electrolysers (PEMWE) with significantly reduced capital costs (targeting 500-700 euros per kilowatt) while maintaining performance and durability. The innovation focuses on replacing expensive titanium and precious metal components with coated stainless steel alternatives, reducing dependence on critical raw materials. The consortium comprises 12 research centres and companies from six countries. The project includes construction of a 25 kW electrolyser prototype, with produced hydrogen to be used in a pilot plant for methanol synthesis from CO2. Research demonstrates PEMWE cells with coated stainless steel bipolar plates and porous transport layers can achieve 13-fold current density increase while reducing costs and environmental impact. The work addresses green hydrogen production for renewable energy storage and sustainable chemical synthesis.
