About
Founded in 2019, Radschaft is a ngo headquartered in Basel, Switzerland specializing in Biogas.
Radschaft was founded in 2019 as a community initiative in Basel's Gundeli district, starting with a cargo bike and a simple idea: to recycle organic waste meaningfully rather than burn it. The organization collects bioabfall (organic waste) from households and businesses once or twice weekly and transports it to a regional anaerobic digestion facility in Pratteln, where it is converted into biogas, which is then transformed into electricity and heat. The operation emphasizes circular economy principles, local resource retention, and emission-free logistics using electric vehicles and cargo bikes. The organization is structured as a non-profit association (Verein) and has grown from a single neighborhood initiative to serving over 500 households and numerous businesses throughout Basel. Leadership evolved from founder Adrian Schaffner, Nicolas Perreten, and Samuel Reber, with later management transitions to Florian Omlin and subsequently to Cem Özdemir and Elvis Radonjic.
