The Reiner Lemoine Stiftung (RLS) is a non-profit foundation founded in 2006 to advance the energy system transformation toward 100% renewable energy in Germany and internationally. Named after renewable energy pioneer Reiner Lemoine (1956-2022), the foundation supports scientific research, applied analysis, and education in renewable energy sectors. The foundation operates the Reiner Lemoine Institut (RLI), an independent research institute established in 2010 that conducts applied research on energy system transformation, renewable mobility, and off-grid systems. Since 2007, RLS has funded doctoral research through stipendium and doctoral college programs (Graduiertenkolleg since 2020), supporting approximately 100 current and former scholars. The foundation became a gGmbH (limited liability company with charitable purpose) in 2024, transitioning from trust structure. Its work focuses on understanding systemic barriers to energy transition and developing targeted solutions for complete renewable energy supply systems.
