Founded in 2004, REN21 is a ngo headquartered in Germany with approximately 10-50 employees specializing in Solar, Wind, Hydro.
REN21 is a global network of diverse stakeholders including governments, industry, NGOs, academia, and civil society organizations. The network was established as an outcome of the Bonn 2004 International Conference on Renewable Energy. The organization operates through a Steering Committee of 50 representatives elected from its membership, and a Bureau comprising the President, Executive Director, and seven Steering Committee members. REN21 works across multiple sectors including transport, heating/cooling, and cities to drive systemic transformation necessary for renewable energy adoption. The organization focuses on strategic intelligence, policy dialogue, and evidence-based advocacy to position renewable energy at the center of global policymaking.
