Sociarem (Solar Open Community Instruments for All Residents in Europe & the Mediterranean) is a research and innovation project funded by the European Union's Horizon Europe programme and Swiss government. Coordinated by Comillas Pontifical University in Spain, it brings together 15 organizations from 8 countries including universities, research centers, SMEs, and social organizations. The project develops and deploys integrated digital solutions and governance frameworks to enable renewable energy communities. Key activities include testing peer-to-peer energy trading platforms, photovoltaic optimization tools, grid simulation systems, and blockchain-based settlement mechanisms across four demonstration sites in Switzerland, Portugal, Cyprus, and Italy. The initiative focuses on removing social, regulatory, and technical barriers to solar adoption while promoting energy literacy, fair community participation, and reducing energy poverty.
