Founded in 2021, Solar Stewardship Initiative is a ngo headquartered in Belgium specializing in Solar.

The Solar Stewardship Initiative is a holistic sustainable supply chain solution dedicated to the solar PV sector. It was established in March 2021 by SolarPower Europe and Solar Energy UK as part of a workstream initiated in 2015. SSI operates through a multi-stakeholder governance structure with equal representation from industry and non-industry groups across four stakeholder categories. The Initiative develops and implements SSI Standards—combining international standards, industry expertise, and civil society perspectives—evaluated by independent assessors to ensure compliance with sustainability and ESG criteria. With over 50 member organizations representing majority market share of the solar PV industry at inception, SSI works with manufacturers, buyers, NGOs, civil society, academics, and international financial institutions. The organization focuses on supply chain traceability, procurement practices, ESG performance, transparency, responsible sourcing of materials, and human rights across solar value chains. It is endorsed by the International Finance Corporation and European Investment Bank.
