Solarverein Berlin-Brandenburg e.V. is a German nonprofit organization founded in August 2003 to promote the development and operation of citizen-owned solar installations (Bürgersolaranlagen) in the Berlin-Brandenburg region. The association initiated nine community solar projects between 2004 and 2009, totaling 230 kWp capacity with over 200 citizen investors contributing more than one million euros. These installations generate approximately 200,000 kWh annually. The association operates through a GbR (partnership) model, allowing citizens to purchase shares in collectively-owned solar systems. Key projects include installations on school rooftops in Teltow and residential properties. The organization focuses on information dissemination, advocacy for favorable renewable energy policies, and facilitation of community engagement in solar energy. As the initial 20-year EEG (German Renewable Energy Act) subsidies expire for early installations (2024 onwards), the association addresses challenges of continued operation and asset transfer to local municipalities.
