About
Founded in 2022, SophiA4Africa is a ngo headquartered in Karlsruhe, Germany specializing in Solar.
SophiA4Africa is a Horizon 2020 EU-funded research and innovation project coordinated by Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences. The project develops containerized, sustainable solutions for rural and remote health facilities in Africa, combining natural refrigerants, solar thermal energy, and photovoltaic systems. The systems provide carbon-neutral electricity, heating, medicine cooling, and safe drinking water. Pilot installations are deployed at four demonstration hospitals in Burkina Faso (Léo Hospital), Cameroon (Ad Lucem Hospital, Edea), Malawi (Mua Mission Hospital), and Uganda (Buvuma Health Centre IV). The consortium comprises 13 partners from three European and four African countries, balancing academia and industry expertise. The project aims to accelerate sustainable development and improve healthcare access across sub-Saharan Africa.
