Stadtwerke Nienburg/Weser GmbH is building an integrated hydrogen production facility and refueling station in Nienburg/Weser, Lower Saxony. The facility combines a 2.1 MW photovoltaic free-field installation with electrolyzers to produce green hydrogen on-site. The hydrogen is stored at pressures up to 500 bar and used to fuel hydrogen fuel cell buses operated by the municipal public transport system. The project also targets regional logistics operators with heavy-duty vehicles. Commissioned in spring 2025, the facility demonstrates a scalable, autarkic model for decarbonizing transport infrastructure at the regional level. Funded by the State of Lower Saxony.
