About
Founded in 2020, SunCoChem is a ngo headquartered in Spain specializing in Hydrogen, Other.
SunCoChem is a Horizon 2020-funded research and innovation project that develops advanced photoelectrocatalytic tandem reactor technology for solar-driven CO2 conversion. The project integrates CO2 capture and conversion in a single device to manufacture value-added oxo-chemicals from renewable energy sources and industrial CO2 emissions. Operating from May 2020 to October 2024, it involves 14 partners across 8 European countries, including Eurecat (coordinator), Politecnico di Torino, HYSYTECH, and Helmholtz-Zentrum Berlin. The innovation couples selective 2-electron CO2 reduction to CO with in-situ CO-carbonylation processes using novel multifunctional hybrid photoelectrocatalysts and fluorine-free ionic liquids as non-aqueous electrolytes. The project aims to scale technology from TRL3 to TRL5, reducing chemical industry dependence on carbon-based feedstocks while enabling circular economy approaches.
