About
Founded in 2023, Sunny-project is a ngo headquartered in Berlin, Germany specializing in Solar, Biogas, Hydrogen.
SUNNY is a 48-month collaborative project gathering 17 partners from 3 African, 5 European, and 2 associated countries. Led by TU Berlin, it aims to provide highly replicable renewable energy solutions tailored to local contexts in Africa, focusing on climate mitigation and adaptation. The project demonstrates five renewable energy technologies (TRL 7-8) adapted to local needs: enhanced solar home systems with increased storage capacity and modular design for household cost-sharing; hydrogen cooking solutions with retrofit capabilities and low-cost storage; biogas digesters utilizing locally-available materials for waste management; solar-powered refrigerated food storage with extended backup power and IoT-enabled remote monitoring; and smart irrigation systems. The approach emphasizes local value chains, circular economy principles, social innovation, community co-creation, capacity building for local stakeholders, and social cohesion between refugee and host populations. Implementation sites are located in Uganda and Rwanda.
