About
Founded in 2023, Terraforming LIFE is a private headquartered in Reykjavík, Iceland specializing in Biogas, Energy Storage.
Terraforming LIFE is a collaborative innovation project funded by the EU LIFE Programme that develops technologies and methods for an Integrated Agriculture Aquaculture System. The project converts organic side streams—specifically fish sludge from land-based salmon farms and livestock manure—into valuable products: biogas for energy generation and nutrient-rich organic fertiliser. The facility, operational by May 2028, will process 30,170 tonnes of organic waste annually with capacity to scale to 100,000 tonnes. The project addresses Iceland's growing aquaculture production (projected 150,000 tonnes of organic waste by 2031) and reduces reliance on imported synthetic fertilisers while strengthening domestic food security and supporting Iceland's climate goals. Total project cost: €10.4 million (€6.2 million EU grant + €4.2 million partner contributions).
