About
Founded in 2021, TH2ECO is a co-op headquartered in Erfurt, Germany specializing in Hydrogen.
TH2ECO is a consortium-based hydrogen project initiated by Ferngas Netzgesellschaft in Thuringia, Germany. Since 2021, it has bundled the activities of multiple partners to establish a local, regenerative hydrogen economy. The project covers the entire hydrogen value chain: production via electrolysis using renewable energy, transport through converted gas pipelines (42 km of repurposed infrastructure plus new 5.7 km sections), storage in underground facilities, and distribution to end-users in heating, mobility, and industrial applications. Key infrastructure includes a hydrogen mobility hub at Erfurt's freight distribution center with public hydrogen refueling stations, two 20 MW electrolyzers, and connections to industrial customers. The consortium comprises 31 members including Ferngas, BOREAS Energie, Green Wind Innovation, TEAG, Stadtwerke Erfurt, EurA AG, and JET H2 Energy Germany. By 2025, hydrogen deliveries are expected to commence; connection to Germany's national hydrogen core network is planned for 2028. The project received €15 million in federal funding (HyPerformer II grant) in 2023, with total project investment of €25 million for the TH2ECO MOBILITY component.
