Founded in 2023, Thumbsupstorage is a ngo headquartered in Spain specializing in Energy Storage, Other.

ThumbsUp is a consortium of 20 organizations from 9 European countries, led by Veolia Spain, developing innovative thermal energy storage technologies for buildings. The project focuses on two main solutions: FractLES (phase change material-based) and SorTES (thermochemical material-based), designed for heating, cooling, domestic hot water, and grid flexibility support. The technologies are modular, plug-and-play systems targeting daily to monthly storage duration with multiple functions. Three demonstration sites are deployed in Sweden and Spain to validate performance across different EU climates. The project aims to improve energy density by 50%, reduce storage costs per kWh by 10%, and increase heat/mass transfer rates by 50% compared to current designs. Digital innovations including building energy management systems and smart aggregators optimize operational benefits and enable demand-side flexibility.
