About

Founded in 2006, Transatlantic21 is a ngo headquartered in Switzerland specializing in Solar.

Transatlantic21 is a Swiss association dedicated to promoting solar energy technology through practical demonstration. The organization conceived and sponsored the sun21 project, a 14-meter solar-powered catamaran that successfully completed the first motorized transatlantic crossing without fuel in 2007. The vessel covered approximately 7,000 nautical miles from Seville to New York City, powered entirely by 65 square meters of solar modules, battery storage, and electric motors. The crew achieved constant speeds of 5-6 knots and won recognition from Guinness World Records for the fastest solar-powered transatlantic crossing. The sun21 was later donated to WWF Adena/Madrid for continued environmental advocacy tours.
