About
Founded in 2016, U-lta is a ngo headquartered in Brussels, Belgium specializing in Hydrogen.
U-lta is an international platform initiated and coordinated by IMIEU in 2016, dedicated to upscaling Lighter-Than-Air (LTA) technology including airships and related innovations. The platform aims to decarbonize aviation by promoting the use of hydrogen and helium-based airships for cargo transport, environmental surveillance, humanitarian aid, and passenger services. Key objectives include enhancing visibility of LTA technology with European and international institutions, mobilizing financing and investments for infrastructure, improving certification and safety procedures, and developing training programs. The platform collaborates with over 15 partner organizations including universities, research institutions, and private developers to drive technological advancement and regulatory evolution. LTA carriers offer significant environmental benefits: requiring 90% less power for takeoff, generating minimal noise, reducing CO2 emissions, and enabling access to remote regions without extensive ground infrastructure.
