UrStrom eG is a citizen energy cooperative based in Mainz, Germany, dedicated to advancing the energy transition in the Rheinhessen/Nahe region. The cooperative specializes in developing and operating photovoltaic systems across various configurations, including ground-mounted installations, agro-photovoltaic systems that combine food production with solar power generation, and solar biotopes that enhance biodiversity. The organization operates through multiple working groups: AG PV-Projekte develops and implements PV installations; AG PV-Technik provides technical expertise for planning, construction, and operation; AG PV-Pflege maintains existing installations; AG Freiflächen-PV focuses on large-scale ground-mounted solar projects; AG Öffentlichkeitsarbeit handles public engagement and communications; and AG Balkonmodule addresses balcony solar module initiatives. With over 15 years of operational experience, the cooperative manages 33 PV installations that collectively avoid approximately 1,310 tonnes of CO2 annually.
