V4Smart GmbH & Co. KG emerged from VARTA AG's Large Li-Ion Cells business unit and became a joint venture with Porsche AG as majority shareholder in March 2025. The company develops and manufactures automotive-grade lithium-ion cylindrical cells designed for high-power applications requiring ultra-fast charging, continuous high discharge, and thermal stability. Series production began at the Ellwangen site in 2024, with expansion to Nördlingen planned. The company leverages over 135 years of battery expertise from VARTA AG combined with Porsche's industrialization capabilities. Production facilities incorporate renewable energy sources and are positioned to support European technological sovereignty in battery cell manufacturing.
