Vulcan Energy Resources is a German renewable energy and battery materials company focused on leveraging deep geothermal resources in the Upper Rhine Graben. The company extracts thermal energy from underground reservoirs at depths of 2,000-4,500 meters to generate climate-neutral heat and electricity, while simultaneously producing battery-grade lithium hydroxide monohydrate. The extracted thermal water is returned to underground reservoirs in a closed-loop system. Vulcan aims to be the first company globally to produce climate-neutral lithium and the first in Europe to establish indigenous lithium production. The company has secured construction permits and land acquisitions for facilities at Industriepark Höchst and other locations, with operations planned to commence in 2026.
