Wärmeversorgung Schwabmünchen GmbH operates a sustainable district heating network in the Südwest III residential area of Schwabmünchen, Germany. The company was established as a joint venture between the City of Schwabmünchen (50%) and e-con AG (50%), both serving as investor and operator. The heating network utilizes waste heat from a combined heat and power (BHKW) process from the nearby Ritter GmbH manufacturing facility. The network extends approximately 4 kilometers and supplies around 450 households with a total connected capacity of 2,000 kW. A peak load center with central buffer storage ensures supply security and optimal heat integration. The system is monitored 24/7 to guarantee uninterrupted service. Heat transition commenced February 27, 2024, with planned expansion to additional commercial and residential areas under study.
