WirMachenEnergie eG is a citizen energy cooperative established in December 2022 by 14 founding members from Mittelsachsen with the mission to shape the energy transition locally, democratically, and fairly. The cooperative builds and operates renewable energy installations, primarily photovoltaic systems and agrivoltaic projects, and offers them directly to local consumers. Members can participate either through active involvement or financial investment by purchasing cooperative shares (€100 per share). The cooperative emphasizes dual sustainability: sustainable energy supply and sustainable participation. It serves as a platform bundling infrastructure and competency networks within Mittelsachsen district, supporting citizens, municipalities, and landowners in renewable energy projects. Members have voting rights in democratic decision-making processes and can receive profit distributions. The cooperative is part of Bürgerwerke and offers green electricity tariffs through that network.
