About
Founded in 2014, WISE Power is a ngo headquartered in Belgium specializing in Wind.
WISE Power is a European initiative launched in May 2014 and concluded in October 2016, dedicated to improving social acceptance of onshore wind energy projects. The project focused on enhancing local community participation and engagement in wind farm planning and implementation. Key activities included developing the WE Engage Toolkit—an interactive resource for stakeholder engagement across multiple user groups (developers, network operators, communities, local authorities)—and creating Social Acceptance Pathways (SAPs) documenting best practices from real-life wind projects across Europe. The project emphasized alternative financing mechanisms, particularly community and cooperative funding models, as pathways to increase social support. Geographic scope covered 13 countries with varying wind market maturity: Denmark, Germany, UK, and Spain (advanced); Greece, France, Italy, Ireland, and Belgium (growth); Croatia, Finland, Poland, and Romania (emerging). The consortium comprised European and national wind energy associations, wind developers, planning authorities, capacity-building organizations, renewable energy cooperatives, and scientific partners.
