Semillas para el Desarrollo Sostenible is a non-profit association founded in 2014 by Marta Maccaglia, following architecture and cooperation projects it had carried out since 2011. Its interdisciplinary team of Peruvian and international architects, cooperation specialists, builders and craftspeople works mainly in the Peruvian rural Amazon and Andean regions, with bases in Lima, Pangoa and San Ignacio and offices in Cajamarca and Junín. The association designs and builds educational facilities such as rural schools, student residences, community centres and laboratories, together with community participation processes that share local knowledge, build management capacity and promote locally sourced, culturally grounded architecture. It also carries out research on rural education and territory, collaborates with universities on teaching, workshops and seminars, and takes on public and private commissions for educational, residential, cultural and heritage spaces. It offers paid internships of six months to a year and hosts volunteers and interns from national and international universities.
