About
Founded in 1992, Avocats Sans Frontières is a non-governmental organisation based in Brussels, Belgium working on justice & legal aid, human rights, democracy & civil society.
Avocats Sans Frontières (ASF) is an international NGO founded in 1992 and based in Brussels. It works to promote access to justice and the defence of human rights, and to support the rule of law based on human rights. ASF operates through projects in several countries in Africa and the Euro-Mediterranean region, including the Democratic Republic of the Congo, the Central African Republic, Kenya, Niger, Tanzania, Tunisia and Uganda. Its work includes supporting lawyers and human rights defenders, responding to urgent requests for support, joint advocacy statements, capacity building with local partners such as lawyers, bar associations, paralegals and civil society groups, and research. It also runs online databases of court rulings and detention law. ASF is funded by institutional donors and private donations, and states that it is not connected to the Paris-based NGO of the same name.
