CAAP Culture
Bruxelles, Belgium
About
CAAP Culture is a non-profit network based in Bruxelles, Belgium working on arts & culture, justice & legal aid, education.
CAAP Culture is a French-speaking Belgian non-profit association (asbl) that promotes culture in prisons. Formerly known as CAAP (Concertation des Associations Actives en Prison), it was renamed in January 2024. It coordinates around 30 member associations active in the 18 French-speaking prisons and the Paifve social defence establishment, across culture and sport, training and education, psychosocial support, and health and post-release areas. It advocates for a concerted cultural policy in prisons under the 2005 Prison Principles Law and acts as a platform linking people working inside prisons with the cultural sector outside. Activities include publications, guides for prison libraries, newsletters, and events such as the Journées Nationales de la prison and the Fêtes de la musique en prison. Its multi-year agreement with the FWB culture department partly funds its work.
