About

Founded in 2005, Ekošviesa is a non-governmental organisation based in Vilnius, Lithuania working on environment & climate.

Ekošviesa is a Lithuanian public institution (VšĮ) that organises the collection and recycling of energy-saving and other gas-discharge lamps across Lithuania. Since 2010 it has operated a nationwide collection network, including collection points in major cities and drop-off boxes in retail chains, and passes the collected lamps to electronic waste recyclers that safely remove mercury and recover glass and metals. The organisation was founded in 2005 by lighting manufacturers Philips, Osram, General Electric and BLV Licht to run an efficient lamp collection and recycling system. It also informs residents and businesses about proper lamp waste handling and the role of recycling in saving energy and protecting the environment.
