EULEMA

EULEMA, the European Leadership Majlis, is an international organisation of Muslim religious leaders, scholars, imams and teachers, headquartered in Brussels. It was informally founded in Amsterdam in 2018 and Palermo in 2019 by Muslim religious leaders from 20 European countries, formally registered in Brussels in 2022, and granted legal personality by the Belgian Ministry of Justice in 2023. The organisation works to give Europe's Muslim communities an independent and coordinated voice in interreligious dialogue, in the defence of religious freedom, and in building a cohesive European society. It acts as an official interlocutor for EU institutions on policies affecting Muslims in Europe, including in the Article 17 dialogue of the EU Treaties. Its work includes strategic partnerships on dignity and religious pluralism between East and West, comparative exchange of religious knowledge and interpretations across European Islam, and theological training linked to public diplomacy. EULEMA holds participatory status with the Council of Europe as an International NGO and has been admitted among the Council of Europe's INGOs.
