Hrvatsko čitateljsko društvo

Founded in 1995, Hrvatsko čitateljsko društvo is a non-profit association based in Zagreb, Croatia working on education, children & youth, community development.

Hrvatsko čitateljsko društvo (Croatian Reading Association) is a national, voluntary, not-for-profit association based in Zagreb, Croatia. It works to encourage, research and promote reading and literacy. Its members include librarians, teachers, university professors, pedagogues, psychologists, writers and publishers. The association organises an annual expert conference on International Literacy Day (8 September), runs the Smiješak čitajte! photography contest, publishes the professional journal Hrčak and the e-Bulletin, awards the Đurđa Mesić recognition, and works through around 18 regional branches across Croatia. It was founded as a national association in 1995 and registered in 1997, and is a national branch of the International Literacy Association.
