The Latvian Transatlantic Organisation (LATO) is a non-governmental, nonpartisan organisation founded in 2000 in Riga. It aims to inform the public about NATO and Latvia's membership in the Alliance, organise public events on Latvian and Euro-Atlantic security, promote international partnerships and foster understanding of Latvia's foreign and security policy. LATO organises the Rīga Conference, a major security and foreign policy forum in the Nordic-Baltic region, and promotes policy-relevant research on topics such as gender equality, peace and security, borderland resilience and perceptions of security. It runs initiatives to increase youth interest in security issues, including an annual future leaders forum and masterclasses for young political leaders. Its youth branch, YATA Latvia, is politically neutral and operates under LATO's umbrella. LATO was granted public benefit organisation status in 2011 in the field of civil society development. Its work is focused on Latvia, with cooperation abroad.
